This is the last of the conifers. I’m looking forward to entering the world of broadleaf, deciduous trees. Thank you for your beauty, pines, firs, spruce, cedars, cypresses, junipers!

The name osteosperma should mean ‘bone seed’ unless my meager Latin is off.
The species is apparently closely related to J. occidentalis (Western Juniper). I note that a large chunk of Californian J. occidentalis are now their own species Juniperus grandis which lives up to the name ‘grandis’ by having the oldest and most massive known juniper (Bennett Juniper with an age of over 2000 and possibly over 3000). Though some trees in the Ziarat Juniper forest in Pakistan may be older https://en.unesco.org/biosphere/aspac/ziarat-juniper-forest
Looking forward to the non-conifers

Yes, apparently called so because its seeds are very hard.
