I know–I was pleasantly surprised also! I wonder if they will all be this color. I got it at Bay Natives Nursery, which is a really fun place to visit. Looking at their plant list now, all of the varieties of douglasiana that they have in stock are shades of purple. But the natives do come in this dark reddish shade. They apparently grow wild in the Presidio and on San Bruno Mountain, among other places.

Beautiful! I’ve never seen a Douglas iris in that color–only blue, white, or pale tan. Where did you find it? And where does it grow?
