I just realized I never posted a photo of this, though I finished it in early November.

Problems in Translation. Mixed media, 15x28x5 cm. (c) 2019 Amy Zucker Morgenstern
I got onto Craigslist yesterday and found someone selling some small wooden boxes, used, so I’m excited about continuing my explorations in this vein.

I like can you say more about the piece– did I miss a title or do you not have one for it.

Oops, the caption didn’t come through before. It’s called “Problems in Translation,” which is what all the excerpts in the collage are about. I’m interested in the gap between what one person says and another understands, and how amazing it is that we manage to bridge it at all.

I love it… And I think, like me, you love Joseph Cornell. Have you used Altoid tins yet? Something about going so small is appealing to me … Also, because they have a lid, it kind of feels like they’ve just been opened to reveal their tiny world to you.

Thank you. I think I’ve seen some of your Altoid tin pieces! Yes, I love Joseph Cornell and that feeling of being invited into a tiny world. At the moment I’m going to work with paper or wood boxes because I want to keep doing that string art, and putting dozens of holes in the edges of an Altoids tin is beyond my technical capacity. But what a great “canvas.”
