Introduced in the US, invasive in Australia, and a real pain to draw the way I tried it. I really wanted to get the tangle of needles and their contrast against the dark shadows, but whoo is that tough with pencil on white paper. For similar trees over the next few days, I may try a scratchboard, white on black. My daughter gave me some a year or two ago and I enjoyed doing some other botanical drawing on it.

I sent a one word response to S&S on your latest. A happy near year to all. We had friends for lunch on NY day. A lively Group. B has her fusion surgery on Thursday. Staying over at the hospital for two days. I’m well enough to follow up. She’ll recuperate for at least two months. My wound doctor tells me I’m healing well but slowly. I’m having a vascular profile in a week or so. The fatigue that’s a side effect is slowing me up but I manage. I still am bandaged and will be for a few more days. Scamper goes to his kennel for a few days and a neighbor will take care of him for a few days after. It ha been a delight having him. I’m reading a lot of Dostoyevsky. I never realised his greatness and, in new translations, his humor. Maybe Indigo can sample him in Russian. Love Dad
