Maybe tomorrow I’ll depart from the leaf-a-day plan long enough to draw the cone of a deodar, because I love them. But tonight, the leaves.

I love seeing your realistic drawings of conifer needles and look forward to seeing drawings of broadleaf tree leaves as well. We have a very large Deodar cedar in our back yard. When the cones fall, they shatter, so you will not get a chance to draw a complete cone, but only the part that often doesn’t shatter–the rosette you have mentioned before. The only way to draw a whole cone is if you draw it when it is still on the tree! It will be quite a while until new cones form.
