That’s all. I just hate my own style, or maybe it’s not that that I hate, but the particular ways I get stuck. My too-familiar ruts. Ugh.
I’m spilling this out here because my blog is in part my art journal, and it’s important to share the gamut of moods.
Tomorrow I’ll try to get out of the rut by drawing the same subject (a couple of leaves) in a totally different way. Tonight I’m just closing the sketchbook on this unsatisfying drawing and going to bed.

I’m sad to hear that you hate your art. And if you do, then you must care very deeply about it. -Chris

That is a lovely reframing, Chris. I do. And I don’t usually hate it. Sometimes I even really, really love it. The assemblage I did in November is now hanging in my office, along with a few of my drawings, and a picture of it is featured on the lock page of my phone so that I see it many times a day. But there are days . . .
I know this: I love the leaves. I come to love them even more by drawing them. So I want to pour what I love about them onto the paper. That is rare, but I try to remember that it’s the process that’s important.

At least you have ideas about what to try to remedy your dilemma. I believe that attitude shows you already succeeding. Best wishes Pam Vorce
